Acer Teases Quad-core 1080p Iconia A700 Tablet
We're expecting to see quite a few quad-core devices at CES this year, so it seems only fitting that Acer starts the week off right with a glimpse of its upcoming quad-core tablet.
CES 2011 featured a lot of mobile devices based on Nvidia's Tegra 2 chipset. This year, Nvidia is promising a host of new Tegra devices, except this time around, they're based on the company's brand new Tegra 3 "Kal-El" processor. We expect to see quite a few Tegra 3 tablets at CES (as well as a few phones), but with the show not scheduled to start until tomorrow, the prize for first-out-the-gate goes to Acer.
The company reportedly wrapped up its press conference last night with a healthy dose of teasing for its upcoming Iconia A700 tablet. Based on Tegra 3 and running Google's Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich," the tablet will boast a 1.3 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 and a 10.1-inch "IPS-quality" 1080p display.
If this sounds at all familiar to you, it's probably because the A700 (along with the 3G-enabled A701) was spotted on Acer's support pages way back in November. The company kept quiet then, refusing to confirm or deny the tablets' existence. Last night, the company was similarly quiet, revealing little else about the tablet and saying nothing about a price or projected release date. However, after this little taster, we're sure folks will be flocking to the company's booth to try to squeeze more information out of the representatives on duty. We'll let you know if anyone at Acer caves and lets the cat out of the bag.
