Only 6% faster than the 6000+

Compared to its predecessor, the core frequency of the Athlon 64 X2 6400+ is 200 MHz higher and the memory runs 25 MHz (50 MHz DDR) faster.
In our entire benchmark suite, the 6400+ was only able to pull ahead of the 600+ by 6.6%.

Currently, the 6000+ sells for about € 150. AMD asks € 100 more for the 6400+, even though it is only 6.6% faster.
We understand that the 6400+ can command a certain premium as the fastest processor for the AM2 socket. However, we have trouble finding a 60% mark-up reasonable for the performance offered.
Even of the buyers who wish to use AMD parts exclusively, few are likely to be willing to accept this price.
