Advanced Micro Devices Inc. president Hector de J. Ruiz confirmed earlier reports that his company is negotiating with upstart Transmeta Corp. about trading technologies aimed at producing very low-end consumer PCs and PC appliances. AMD wants Transmeta's low-power chip technology to help cut power consumption in its Athlon and Duron microprocessors, perhaps to only 1 watt.
