Curiously, the HD 3870 doesn’t seem to really take off from the HD 2900 XT under Age of Empires 3. One must understand that this game is very sensitive to shading performances and not so much to memory bandwidth; and we must remember that when it comes to raw power, the superiority of the HD 3870 over its big brother is only of 4%. Hence, the GeForce 8800 GT displays here a clear supremacy over its rival, with results 17 to 31% better, except in 1920 x 1440 + filters once again.
Regarding the Radeon HD 3850, it remains behind by 7 to 19% compared to the 8800 GTS 320 MB, but remains about two times faster than the 8600 GTS.
