Oversupply of 915 chipsets to affect profits at Taiwan mobo makers
Taiwan makers of motherboards and PC chipsets are expected to have their profits eroded significantly in the first quarter due to an oversupply of Intel’s 915-series chipsets, according to Henry King, an analyst at Goldman Sachs, as quoted in a March 22 report of the Chinese-language Commercial Times. According to the report, the oversupply of the 915 chipsets forced Asustek Computer to adopt an aggressive pricing for its S- and Oniga-series entry-level motherboards, with some models falling to as low as US$40, King noted.
