800MHz Athlon does Vegas
AMD is due to juice up its Athlon processor this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, introducing an 800MHz version.
The chip will replace the 750MHz Athlon as AMD's fastest processor.
The top-end Athlon will be available immediately in PCs from manufacturers such as Compaq and IBM.
For instance, Compaq will offer the 800MHz chip in its Presario 5900Z PC line. The $2,550 PC will come with 128MB of RAM, a 20GB hard drive and a 17" monito.
