400 GByte space for the road

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Dallas (TX) - Not enough mobile storage space ? Here is the solution : Edge Tech offers a 3.5" portable harddrives with up to 400 GByte capacity.

For those situations when big is not big enough there is now another harddrive monster that offers portable storage with up to 400 GByte space. The DiskGO ! is not quite the first portable drive with that much capacity, but other than similar devices for example from Seagate and Maxtor, the device is not marketed as backup unit, but as drive that is designed to carry data from A to B.

The product is built in a 3.5" form factor and supports USB 2.0 and IEEE1394 interfaces. The manufacturer did not provide details on the weight of the drive, but its obvious that 100 grams more or less should not be a concern for users who would like to take advantage of the DiskGO ! drive.

According to a press release, Edge undercuts pricing levels for portable 400 GByte drives. The drive is offered at $350 after a mail-in-rebate - which was not visible on the firm’s website late Monday. Instead the drive was offered for $397.81.

Other portable 400 GByte drives on the market include Olixir’s Mobile Data Vault for extreme environments and about $780, Seagate’s external 400 GByte backup for street prices of about $400, and SimpleTech’s 400 GByte portable drive for about $420.

In addition to the 400 GByte, Edge Tech offers the DiskGO ! as models with 80, 120, 160, and 250 GByte.
