3Dlabs' OpenML Media-Authoring Software

by - source: Tom's Hardware

OK, I know that most of you don't have OpenGL-based cards, but it's good to keep up on new developments that relate to different graphics solutions, even if it's just for cocktail party (I mean coffee shop) conversation. The fact that there are so few hardware graphics companies nowadays makes just about any advancement newsworthy. That's not to say that the OpenML environment doesn't sound cool. Its just an observation on the state of PC graphics. Anyway, 3Dlabs is now supporting the new OpenML 1.0 spec, released by the Khronos Special Interest Group, and expects to ship OpenML drivers for its Wildcat graphics accelerators within two quarters of the specification being finalized. OpenML is a complementary software environment to the OpenGL API that provides multi-platform capabilities for capturing, processing, synchronizing and playing digital media. OpenML drivers are being touted as having the ability to enable the seamless integration and acceleration of video and 3D media streams on OpenGL hardware. Not surprisingly, 3Dlabs plays a big part in the Khronos Group. The company's Randi Rost leads the OpenGL extensions group for OpenML and 3Dlabs' Neil Trevett was elected to the role of Secretary of the SIG. For more information on the specification take a look at the Khronos SIG's website .
