3dfx lays off, spins off
Web site www.shugashack.com is reporting that 3dfx will reduce its workforce substantially, laying off 5 percent of its employees and shedding another 15 percent into a spinoff company.
The spinoff involves workers that comprised the former advanced multimedia group of STB.
The news report speculates that the moves will help the graphics chip maker improve its Q1 fiscal performance, and eliminate redundancy created by 3dfx' acquisition of card-maker STB.
