3dfx CEO resigns
The executive credited for helping 3dfx to become one of the leading makers of 3D graphics chipsets for PCs has resigned.
L. Gregory Ballard will step down from his post as president and CEO, effective Oct. 31. A search for his successor is already underway.
The company has struggled financially during the last two quarters, following its acquisition of STB Systems. The problems have been exascerbated by perceptions among some observers that 3dfx's flagship Voodoo line of chipsets is technologically inferior to rival Nvidia's latest products.
