3D projection without glasses

by - source: Tom's Hardware

One of the most popular booths at Comdex this year featured a 3D projection of "volumetric" images into thin air. Dimensional Media's technologies range from simple physics tricks done with mirrors and lenses to expensive multi-planar displays. None, however, require special glasses or headgear. The company's research was paid for with US military funding from Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). At Comdex, the company exhibited 3D video and a "virtual" teller-machine with functioning buttons that appeared to float in space in front off the viewer. The company is planning to sell the first volumetric 3D computer monitors early next year, initially marketed to medical providers, the military and CAD/CAM companies. The images will give viewers full "look around" of projected images.
