3Com and Xircom Settle Patent Infringement Lawsuits
3Com Corporation and Xircom (which was acquired by Intel in 2001 and is now a subsidiary) jointly announced on Tuesday that they have reached a settlement agreement that covers three patent infringement claims. 3Com had sued Xircom in July of this year for infringement of 29 3Com patents that were part of Xircom's products, RealPort and RealPort2, and Xircom had cross-claimed in two related actions against 3Com. The settlements cover all three actions and provide a $15 million payment to 3Com by Xircom, in addition to cross-licensing of the disputed patents. 3Com's General Counsel issued a statement that, "We are pleased to reach patent peace with Intel and anticipate an improved business relationship."
