ZyXEL

Zyxel showed up at our Editor's Day with an armload of gadgets. The new version of their VOIP phone may be the most interesting, but unfortunately we can't give too many details because it is set to launch officially in a few weeks.

Business travelers may be a little hesitant to use public network connections and the networks in hotels. Carrying around a full-sized consumer firewall would not be practical, but ZyXEL's ZyWALL P1 may fit the bill. This PDA-sized, USB-powered firewall provides firewall protection and VPN tunnels for the road warrior.

The unit is ICSA Labs certified.

The new ZyXEL 2302R VOIP Router has some interesting features. Two analog phone ports are on the back, so you can give your old phones VOIP capabilities. The two ports can be attached to a single SIP account, or separate accounts.
The router will recognize 911 calls and route them out a regular phone line, and phone calls are also routed out a regular phone line in event of power failure.
One or two VOIP accounts can be used for the two phone lines. In fact, ZyXEL officials say that the user can set up to 16 combinations of phone line and account pairings.

A Final Note
We want to thank all the vendors and their representatives who took the time to come out for our first Editor's Day in beautiful Irvine, California. Look for future announcements and gatherings in other parts of the world where technology companies congregate.
