15.4" MacBooks On The Way
The Taiwanese rumor mill has gone into action, claiming that Apple will begin shipping 15.4" MacBooks in Q2 of 2007 (that’s sometime before June, to me and you).
This isn’t a new rumor, having surfaced before in October, and while Taiwanese "sources" can often get the date wrong, they have been known to get the idea right. If they’re right on this one then we’ll be seeing the MacBook scale up in size to compete with the MacBook Pro ; but it will remain the Pro which has all the graphical bells and whistles for professionals and (dare we mention them) Mac Gamers.
This is probably a deliberate strategy on behalf of Apple - give you as big a screen as you want for the MacBook, but you’ll have to pony up serious money to get the graphics. Q2 will also coincide with the launch of Intels new Santa Rosa Centrino chip, which Apple might want to include in any product refresh.
