DotIE domain names now available to Joe and Jane

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

The IEDR (IE Domain Registry) has announced that, from today, individuals can now register for .ie web addresses.

Up until now the IEDR had restricted the registration to businesses only. There is a period of nearly two months in which politicians and professionsals can still register for a non-personal .ie domain name if they have not already done so.

In order to maintain the integrity of the dot-ie domain namespace, people wishing to obtain a Personal Domain Name (PDN) such as www.jimmyjohnson.ie, must produce a valid form of ID such as a passport, driving licence or a utility bill. PDNs must be a combination of your first and last name or your initials.

The cost of maintaining your PDN is just under €70 per year plus VAT but this price will vary with regard to resellers.
