Tatung is poised to introduce a line of PCs that will redefine the low-end of the PC price spectrum.

The company is developing a line of multi-colored consumer PCs that will start at about $299, according to a report by InfoBeads Inc. Tatung will offer a stripped-down version for as little as $200, but don't look for a CD-ROM or Windows 98 onboard. The cheap PCs will use Linux, running on a Cyrix chip.

Tatung also plans to offer more conventional PCs with Windows 98 and an AMD K6-2 processor, starting at around $400.
